My Story

My name is Jen Kohlenberger, stylist and owner of JK Designs. After receiving a Bachelor's Degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, I realized my passion resided elsewhere --  in the dressing of hair. I decided to go back to school to obtain my Cosmetology license, and pursue a career in the hair industry.

I opened the doors to my first private studio, JMc Hair Studio, in August 2013, in Costa Mesa, California. In 2015, Sola Salon Studios announced the opening of a new location in Tustin, California, and I knew that's where my business belonged. Being a former Miss Tustin, my heart has a strong attachment to that incredible city, so I took this announcement as a sign, and relocated. I am blessed to be able to provide services to my clients in a personalized, private space, in a city that has warmly embraced me.

As much as I love cutting and coloring clients' hair in my salon chair, I also am enlivened by the energy of weddings, photoshoots, runway shows, and industry competition. In Cosmetology school, I entered a bridal updo competition, Junior Style Stars, and won the People's Choice Award. I was given the opportunity to go to New York and meet Ted Gibson and the team at Ted Gibson Salon -- an experience that completely changed my life. I learned immediately that I could grow and accomplish great things in this industry by simply taking chances.

I have always been drawn to Bridal styling. I create worry-free styles that are unique to each bride, and can create any look, from the most simple to the most intricate.

My Vision

Hairstyling allows me to do two things I enjoy most in life: helping people and being creative. Realizing that I have the ability to make people feel good about themselves has greatly impacted me. It is my goal to help every client love the way they look, which will transform the way they feel. I am always striving to manipulate hair in ways that have never been done, and create looks that inspire. In addition to the success of my salon, I hope that my futue holds involvement in NAHA and editorial work as well.

In my studio, it's all about you and your hair. You can leave your stress at the door and enjoy getting your hair done in a relaxing, no nonsense environment. Please come visit me!
